McEwen Exit Open!!!!

At last, the new McEwen exit off of I-65 is OPEN! I drove it on Friday afternoon, the day it opened, and it was awesome! Quite a lovely exit, complete with light posts, sidewalks, bike lanes and even a monument welcoming you to Franklin.

If you haven't traveled it yet, take it over the interstate and all the way to Wilson Pike. It's a beautiful drive. Residents of Avalon and several other communities can now access the interstate much quicker.

Kudos to Franklin for doing this and for finishing 2 months AHEAD of schedule!

Is it hot enough???

Only because I've not had time have I not taken an egg out to the street to see if it fries on the asphalt...something I'm sure my 6 year old would thoroughly enjoy.

Like everyone else, I'm trying hard to keep my plants and flowers alive in the midst of this drought, but it appears that I'm losing my azaleas at the very least...14 of them to be exact!

For those of you considering a move to the middle Tennessee area, we are experiencing record temperatures...unlike EVER before, apparently. So, when you come, know that the weather is not normal for any of us here! It's unbelievable. Looking out at the hills, it almost looks like fall because the trees are already turning brown and dropping leaves. Grass everywhere is brown and crunchy and water restrictions abound.

We're a month away from fall still...it cannot come soon enough!

Who's Ready for the Opening of the New McEwen Exit?

I drove by the new McEwen exit this morning, like I do almost every day, and it looks like it will be open within just days! Much of the paving is complete, the traffic lights are blinking and stripes are being painted...it's SOOOO close to completion.

Once this exit opens, it'll cut down on the traffic nightmare at the Cool Springs Blvd. intersection during rush hour. The new exit will allow easy access to Liberty Pike. As well, residents of Avalon, Ashton Park, Garden Club Estates and several other developments on the other side of I-65 will have a straight shot to and from I-65, cutting their drive time by several minutes.

It's gonna be awesome, and it's just one more sign of the times for Franklin's massive growth.

Back to School for FSSD!

Well, summer has come to an end as far as school goes...tomorrow marks the official first day of the new school year for the Franklin Special School District. A parent of a FSSD first grader, I can't believe summer break is already over. It's been a crazy one, trying to figure out how to juggle work and camp and then find other things for him to do during other times. We're both excited to get back into a routine.

How fortunate and blessed I feel to be the parent of a child in the FSSD, one of the most coveted school districts in the state! Here's to another great year of school for our kids! Thank you teachers and staff...you do an awesome job!

Pinkerton Park

Whether you're looking for a great walking/running/biking trail or just a place to relax under the shade of a big oak tree with a book, there are so many great parks around Williamson County to check out and enjoy. I live close to Pinkerton Park in Franklin, so I go there often to walk the mile track, which paved with asphalt, marked every 1/4 mile and has various stretching machines along the way. Oh, and they just installed several swings olong the trail where you can sit and take a rest. It winds in and around the park and is completely visible from all areas of the park. I go there alone and never feel threatened...there are always other walker and runners nearby. Along the path, you can take a side road over the Harpeth River if you'd like. A pedestrian bridge connects the park to Church Street, so you could even have dinner on the square and then take a stroll over to Pinkerton from there. There's also a trail leading back to the historic site of Fort Granger, where the Union soldiers were camped during the Civil War.

In addition to the paved trail, there's a great playground for the kids, as well as a separate area for smaller children. There are coke machines, water fountains and public restrooms, along with several picnic tables, both covered and open so you can picnic, have birthday parties and hang out. There are open fields for frisbee and football or soccer and plenty of parking.

You can take your dogs, but you must keep them on a leash. They even provide doggie bags for cleaning up after your dog does his 'business'.

During the summers, Pinkerton hosts movies in the park on certain nights of the week. They show family-friendly movies at dusk and it's a great, clean atmosphere.

Check it out...I love it there!

Here's a list of some other parks in the area to check out. Click on each one for a link to the park's website.
